Long Range Plan
This document, prepared by the Director and Library Board, is the plan of what is going to happen at the library over the next few years. It shows what we set as priorities to meet the needs of our community.

Mission Statement
The Pioneer Heritage Library provides equal access to quality current information services, materials, and resources to all members of our community. The Library supports lifelong learning and enjoyment in an inclusive, welcoming environment that is a comfortable community destination.
Goals, Objectives, and Activities
Goal I: The children of the LeGrand community will have materials and programs that foster, stimulate, and encourage their interest in reading and learning.
- Objective I.1. Circulation of the library’s junior fiction collection will increase by 10% in FY2008, and 5% in the following years.
- Objective I.2. At least five families will regularly attend the library’s evening family storytime in FY2007. After the initial year, one additional family each year will attend.
- Objective I.3. The total attendance at summer library programs will increase by 5% in FY 2007 and 3% in the following years.
- Objective I.4. After the initial year, the number of hits on the children’s page of the library’s web site will increase by 15% each year.
- Objective I.5. At least ten children will regularly attend the library’s after school program beginning in FY2007.
- Activity I.1. The library will establish an after-school program for grades K-8. Shelley and volunteers: FY 2007.
- Activity I.2. The library will investigate and implement if feasible an outreach program to preschools and certified daycare providers. Shelley: FY2008.
- Activity I.3. The library will investigate and implement better networking systems with the school (school visits, curriculum support, etc.). Shelley: FY2007.
- Activity I.4. The library will develop an intergenerational book club for senior citizens and young people. Shelley and volunteers; FY2008.
- Activity I.5. The library will weed and update the junior fiction collection, with more emphasis on popular new series, graphic novels, fantasy, etc. The library will take advantage of automatic shipment programs for junior series. Shelley and volunteers: FY2007.
- Activity I.6. The library will investigate and implement if feasible a monthly evening storytime that involves parents with their children. Shelley and volunteers: FY2008.
- Activity I.7. The library will establish links for children, book talks, etc. on its web page. Shelley: FY2008.
Goal II: The citizens of the LeGrand community will have access to materials that fulfill their appetite for information about popular and social trends and their desire for satisfying recreational experiences.
- Objective II.1. Circulation of library materials will increase by 7% each year.
- Objective II.2. After the initial year of recording reader’s advisory questions, the number of questions answered will increase by 5% each year.
- Objective II.3. The delivery time for library materials will decrease by 5% each year.
- Activity II.1. The library will start a book discussion group for adults. Shelley: FY2007.
- Activity II.2. The library will investigate and implement ways to improve reader’s advisory (book lists, series lists, “If you like…” handbook, etc.). Shelley, Linda, and volunteers: FY2008.
- Activity II.3. The library will purchase sufficient copies to meet high demand. Shelley: FY2007 and ongoing.
- Activity II.4. The library will investigate and implement methods of improving the delivery system for materials not immediately available (more authors on automatic ship, faster processing and cataloging, better method of tracking book requests, promote using the reserve system, etc.). Shelley and Linda: FY2007.
- Activity II.5. The library will monitor prepublication review sources, publisher ad campaigns, personal appearances, and TV and movie tie-ins to anticipate public demand. Shelley and Linda: FY2007.
- Activity II.6. The library will establish links for book talks, book lists, bestseller lists, reader’s advisory, etc. on its web page. Shelley: FY2008.
- Activity II.7. The library will offer reserve and request options of patrons on its web page. Shelley: FY2008.
- Activity II.8. The library will investigate and implement moving the book drop to a location more convenient for patrons. Shelley and Board: FY2007.
Goal III: The citizens of the LeGrand community will have a place with a welcoming, comfortable environment that addresses their need to meet and interact with others in the community.
- Objective III.1. The number of library visits will increase by 3% each year.
- Objective III.2. The number of hits on the community information page of the library web site will increase by 15% each year.
- Objective III.3. The number of uses of copier, fax, and internet by group members during meetings will increase by 10% each year.
- Objective III.4. The number of community meetings sponsored by the library will increase by 10% each year.
- Activity III.1. The library will sponsor meetings by craft groups at the library. Shelley, Linda, and volunteers: FY2008.
- Activity III.2. The library will provide more community information about service groups, city organization, school activities, church activities, etc. in print and on its web site. Shelley, Linda, and volunteers: FY2008.
- Activity III.3. The library will conduct a space needs assessment and begin work on implementing the results. Shelley and the board: FY2007.
- Activity III.4. The library will investigate and implement if feasible offering amenities such as coffee to make the environment more inviting. Shelley and the board: FY2008.
- Activity III.5. The library will offer free copier, fax and internet services during the meetings of community groups at the library. Shelley: FY2007.
- Activity III.6. The library will sponsor additional programs for adults. Shelley and the board: FY2008.
- Activity III.7. The library will promote the use of library facilities for a wide range of community organizations. Shelley and the board: FY2007.
