About the Library Director

Meet Shelley Barron, our library director.

Shelley has been the director for twenty-eight years.  Before coming to this library she worked at the Conrad Public Library.  She received her BS in Fisheries and Wildlife Biology from Iowa State University.  Not finding a zoo to work for in the area (although she says she now lives in one), she spent many years in the retail field.

She is certified as a Public Librarian in the State Library of Iowa, is Chairman of the Marshall  County Libraries Association and a member of Iowa Library Association and the Iowa Small Libraries Association.  She has taught classes on display practices in the library for the State Library of Iowa. She was on the steering committee for the Marshall County Arts and Culture Alliance and the Community Foundation of Marshall County.

Shelley is very proud of the many accomplishments that the Library has achieved in the past 20+ years, some of which include: continuation of the Library's accreditation with the State library, complete conversion to an automated catalog and circulation system, addition of new formats to the library collection, increased circulation and in-library use, the receipt of grants for collection development, children's programming and a space needs assessment.  The revival of the summer recreation program (L.E.A.P) eight years ago has served many children and is now under the guidance of the city.
